View unparalleled vistas from Preikestolen
The flat mountain plateau of the Preikestolen rises 604 metres above the Lysefjord and is the most famous tourist attraction in the county of Ryfylke.

Geologists believe the Preikestolen was hewn out of the landscape by the melting frost of the Lysefjord glacier some 10,000 years ago. The top of the cliff is almost flat, measuring approximately 25 by 25 metres and offering spectacular views of the fjord.

To get to the Preikestolen, you can take an hour's journey to the Preikestolhytta, or Preikestolen Mountain Lodge, then put on your hiking boots to take the trail leading up to the rock. The hike to the Preikestolen takes about two hours, but several picnic areas and bathing spots along the way offer hikers refuges of rest and relaxation.
