Taking responsibility for the environment and local community has been an important part of the Rezidor Hotel Group broader commitment to sustainable development for many years. In 2001, this commitment was fortified and placed within the scope of a programme called Responsible Business (RB). The hotels are engaged with both local charity groups and the corporate international charity organisation recognised by the Rezidor Hotel Gruop, the World Childhood Foundation. The mission of Childhood is to defend the rights of the child and to promote better living conditions for vulnerable and exploited children at risk all over the world.

The Rezidor Hotel Group Responsible Business program covers three main areas:

• Taking responsibility for the health and safety of the hotels employees and customers
• Respecting social and ethical issues in the company as well as in the community
• Reducing negative impact on the environment
• At The Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, Residence & Spa every employee attends training on Responsible Business goals and initiatives. Recent activities and achievements include:
• Donations of food and clothing to assist distressed and low-income workers
• Weekly donations of leftover food to the local animal sanctuary
• Supporting local causes including raising funds for "Think Pink"
• Providing free meeting space to a local cancer support group

The Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, Residence & Spa was the first hotel in Bahrain to hold a major "shut down" in support of Earth Hour, 2009, to raise awareness of global warming and climate change. Environment achievements at the hotel include monthly reductions in water consumption of over 900,000 litres and electricity consumption by 100,000 kilowatt hours.
