St. Peters Church

St. Peters Church has been a prominent feature on the Riga skyline for around 800 years, despite the effects of extreme weather and war. Situated in the Old Town in Riga, the church is baroque in style and features a distinctive spire - one which also provides a wonderful view of the city.

The church has been renovated several times and the spire has been rebuilt on more than one occasion. Today, the church is open to visitors, even hosting regular concerts and exhibitions.

History and facilities of St. Peters Church
St. Peters Church has endured an unfortunate history, with both the church itself and the tower needing significant repairs several times. Lightning struck the building in 1721, which burnt down both the tower and the church. St. Peters was then rebuilt but that incarnation only lasted until the Second World War. The church and its tower were then rebuilt for the second time between 1967 and 1983.

St. Peters Church tower now contains an elevator, which takes visitors 70 metres up to the top, affording superb panoramic views of the city. Though elevator use incurs a small fee, the church itself is free and open from 10am to 5pm everyday apart from Mondays.
