Madinah’s Old Bazaar
Madinah’s best shopping can be found in markets selling local produce. The biggest and most established is the Old Bazaar, which can be found near the Prophet’s Square.
After a morning spent haggling at stalls and soaking up the lively atmosphere, visitors may wish to recharge their batteries at one of the finer hotels in Madinah. Guests staying at the Al Muna Kareem Radisson Blu Hotel in Madinah laden with heavy bags full of treasure they’ve found at the Old Bazaar will be pleased to know that the hotel is just meters away. They will be greeted by a friendly concierge who will happily take care of their bags.
Shopping at the Old Bazaar
Almost anything under the sun can be found here, from the sweetest, juiciest dates in town (a local speciality) to prayer rugs, spices and delicious street food like kebab, falafel and lamb dishes.
Some of the most unique things to look for at the Old Bazaar are local perfumes made from a special blend of oils, crushed herbs and flowers. Unlike Western perfumes, they contain no alcohol and make an ideal souvenir.
Haggling is expected here, so visitors should get into the spirit of things and not accept the first price they’re given if they are looking for a bargain.
