Anitkabir

Anitkabir is located at the very heart of Ankara and commemorates some of the most important events in Turkey's history. The main building is the final resting place of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, who was the first president of the Republic of Turkey as well as one of its independence heroes.

The Ataturk Mausoleum can be easily reached if you have conveniently located Ankara accommodation. The Radisson Blu Hotel Ankara is within easy commuting distance to this spectacular site and has over 200 stylish rooms to stay in. At the hotel’s Loca restaurant you can also get some of the city's best Mediterranean cuisine.

Exploring the Anitkabir
Completed in 1953 and visited by millions each year, the Ataturk Mausoleum is the crown jewel of this spacious and architecturally magnificent complex. One of the most popular parts of Anitkabir is the Road of Lions, a pedestrian walkway that leads to Anaturk's tomb flanked by twelve Hittite-styled lions. The 15,000 capacity Ceremonial Plaza is located at the end of the walkway, along with the Hall of Honor which houses Anaturk's tomb underneath a 40-tonne sarcophagus.

Anitkabir also contains ten symmetrically arranged towers that are intended to symbolise the ideals that the Republic of Turkey was founded upon. Inscribed with quotes by Anaturk, these buildings are furnished with traditional Turkish carpets and wondrous fresco roofs.
