Responsible Business - Let's take responsibility

Taking responsibility for the environment and local community has been an important part of the broader commitment of The Rezidor Hotel Group to sustainable development for many years. In 2001, this commitment was fortified and placed within the scope of a programme called Responsible Business (RB). Each hotel has a unique RB Action Plan covering areas such as community outreach, environmental improvement, employee well-being, and health and safety. Rezidor hotels are engaged with both local charity groups and the corporate international charity organisation of The Rezidor Hotel Group, the World Childhood Foundation. The mission of Childhood is to defend the rights of the child and to promote better living conditions for vulnerable and exploited, at-risk children all over the world.

Some of the Responsible Business activities and achievements of this hotel include:

  • In 2008, the hotel invited primary school children to draw their dreams of a hotel and the pictures were exhibited on the first floor of the hotel for two months.
  • The hotel supports the "In Hope of Recovery Foundation" by offering complimentary rooms to children and their families visiting Budapest to fulfill a wish.
  • The hotel staff works during free time at a construction site for the new "In Hope of Recovery Foundation" home section. The new home section is being built to help prepare blind children and teenagers for an independent life and will be equipped with the hotel's former furniture.
  • The hotel started a fundraiser and clothes exchange for the new "In Hope of Recovery Foundation" home section. Guests are invited to make donations in support of the project.
  • Water-conserving aerators have been installed in the guest room showerheads and taps (resulting in approximately 30% water conservation).
  • The hotel received the Green Hotel Award 2009-2010 due to its eco-friendly operation and maintenance.
  • The hotel increased the number of employees with Responsible Business training to 100%, with a half-day team-building group activity.
  • Twice a year, hotel employees host a clothing exchange and bring in outgrown children's clothing. The hotel's laundry service cleans the clothes, and employees select fitting items to take home.
  • "Giving blood saves lives" - Under this theme, blood donation is organised in the hotel four times a year. During the past three blood drives, hotel staff donated blood to a former colleague of Radisson Blu Béke Hotel, Budapest who needed transfusions.
  • The hotel team supports the annual "I love Budapest" campaign by collecting garbage, removing graffiti and cleaning public parks and playgrounds.
