Chelyabinsk is home to many of the sporting clubs in the South Urals region, with its own athletics and football stadium. The latter is home to second division FC Chelyabinsk. The local judo school is one of Russian’s most titled, enjoying Olympic and European success. Traktor Arena is one of the largest sporting facilities in the Chelyabinsk region, built in 2009. This state of the art arena is home to Traktor Chelyabinsk, the local ice hockey team. It has a crown capacity of 7500 seats, and this superb versatile venue also hosts concerts with a capacity of 9000 as well as exhibitions and events. Other successful sporting events and championships are also held here including judo, figure skating, basketball, volleyball, dancing and gymnastics. In addition to all this, the arena has a public skating rink and its own museum.
Traktor Chelyabinsk Ice Hockey
Traktor Chelyabinsk Ice Hockey Team was founded in 1947 as Chelyabinsk Traktor Plant. Their team mascot is ‘Mikey the Polar Bear’ who also features as the team logo and on the black, white, red and silver strips they play in. Over the years the team has had success and many of its players have even represented the national team at Olympics games. Traktor Chelyabinsk is a member of the Kontinental Hockey League. KHL, as it is usually known, is an in international hockey league covering Russia as well as other European and Asian countries. The league is split into four divisions, Traktor being in the Kharlamov division.
