Alte Oper Frankfurt
Alte Oper Frankfurt, translated to Old Opera, is the city’s major concert hall and what once was the former opera house. The original Opera House was damaged during the Second World War. A new Opera House was then rebuilt on an alternative site in 1950’s, so after being reconstructed in the early 80’s, this building was renamed Alte Oper. Alte Oper is located on a square known as Opernplatz, in the Frankfurt city centre. The current Opera House is found nearby.
New Meets Old
Both the internal and external structure of the building is on a grand scale. The exterior facade and the lobby were rebuilt to replicate the original building. The interior, on the other hand, was built to a more modern standard and includes several concert halls, the largest of which seats 2500 people. Alte Oper in Frankfurt is not just a concert hall but also functions as a flexible conference and event venue.
There are over 185 performances annually at Alte Oper, including opera and classical performances, plays and theatre. This stunning Frankfurt concert venue is home to Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, one of Germany’s oldest radio orchestras, who perform on a regularly basis throughout the year. There are also many family days throughout the year with fun-filled events for children.
