Lumley Beach

Freetown is known for its beautiful, unspoilt beaches. At its heart you will find Lumley Beach, one of the busiest beaches on the peninsula. This public beach fronts the Atlantic Ocean stretching for 4km. Aberdeen is situated at the east end and Lumley to the west. It is the closest to town so it is often bustling with people.

Along the whole stretch are a selection of beach bars, restaurants and cafes, making it the perfect spot to relax with a refreshment, light snack, lunch or dinner. As the sun sets this is a popular place to hang out as the area transforms into an attractive nightlife spot.

Leisure Activities
At this vibrant stretch of beach you will find white sands perfect for various sports and activities. During the weekend, it is popular to play football on the beach, many locals teaming up for friendly games, as well as a league. This is a great way to meet new people. The beach is always the perfect place to unwind with a stroll or jog along the water edge. At the Lumley end of the beach you will find a golf course, and the Aberdeen side is particularly well-known for its great fishing. Lifeguards and beach wardens are on duty, and shower blocks are available, so it is a safe place to sunbathe and swim.

However, if you wish to just relax and soak up the warmth of the sun on the white sandy beach, this is also the perfect place. In the evenings make sure you don’t miss the sun setting, transforming the sky into vivid colours.

Radisson Blu Mammy Yoko Hotel, Freetown is set on Lumley Beach. This beachfront hotel provides its own private swimming pool and terrace, private beach bar and tennis courts. This, in addition to the public beach, makes it the ideal place to stay when in Freetown.

Pristine Tokeh Beach
There are many other beaches in the area that are also worth a visit that are often quieter, such as Lakka, No. 2 River, Bureh and Tokeh Beach. The latter is located an hour away from Aberdeen’s Lumley Beach, but they are worlds apart. This pristine beach paradise has crystal clear water set against the backdrop of the forest and mountains of Western Area National Park, making it a great place for a day trip from the hotel. At this palm-lined beach cushioned sunbeds shaded by thatched bamboo parasols are available, as are changing facilities and shower blocks. In addition, there is also a licensed bar and restaurant.
