- I would think that this is one of the largest exhibitions ever to come to Sweden and also one of the largest temporary exhibitions in the world in the past fifteen years, "says Mats Rönngard.
And the show has its world premiere in Gothenburg. Then it is expected to tour to major cities outside Sweden. On the trip follows these original works by Michelangelo, Raphael and Leonardo da Vinci, sculptures and models of Leonardo's famous drawings of helicopters and parachutes. The value of the works is estimated at over one billion SEK.
Why the premiere takes place in Gothenburg has a number of reasons. One is the great commitment of the city's cultural and tourist company Göteborg & Co has shown. They have supported the project from day one.
- We believe it is good for the city if we have a wide range of activities and events. Therefore, we work not only for the big competitions and sporting events should be located in Gothenburg, but also great cultural events. We hope that the exhibition attracts many people , "says Leif Nilsson, CEO Göteborg & Co.
The name of the exhibition is: And there was light. The masters of the renaissance, seen in a new light. (Let there be light - Renaissance masters as seen in a new light). It is an ambiguous title. Firstly there is the light all artists are working with in their paintings, and has been called a religious undertone. The church was many times clients to Renaissance artists. Therefore, many works show religious elements.
But this it is not an exhibition of the traditional kind. Through various types of media, audio-visual and touch screens, the visitors take part of stories about artists and works in a stimulating way.
