The Aussenalster is the larger of two lakes situated within Hamburg’s city limits. The lake, which is fed by the Alster River, is a focal point for residents and tourists alike, offering great recreational opportunities.
The Aussenalster is a short trip away from the superior facilities available at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Hamburg Airport. The trainstation is located next to the airport hotel in Hamburg, and there’s only 9 kilometer to the city centre- 20 min by train.
The Alster lakes
Water has shaped the history and fortunes of Hamburg, giving its people a unique relationship with the rivers and lakes that run through the city. Nowhere is this more apparent than at the Aussenalster, and its smaller counterpart the Binnenalster.
These lakes, which are divided by two bridges, offer boating opportunities to visitors, allowing them a unique view of Hamburg’s impressive church spires and architecture. Visitors needn’t take to the water to fully appreciate this area of outstanding beauty though. The approximate 7 km path around the edge of the Aussenlaster offers an excellent way to see the city on foot, and is popular with joggers and walkers year round.
Hamburg’s outdoor playground
On the water of the Aussenalster, and in the parks surrounding it, visitors to Hamburg are offered the rare luxury of being able to enjoy outside pursuits in a contemporary urban environment. Alongside traditionally popular attractions such as the Miniatur Wunderland, the Alster makes Hamburg a truly special destination.
A day exploring the Alster is a great way to get a flavour of this city on the water. And after a day exploring the vibrant Hamburg landscape, visitors to the city will enjoy staying in a comfortable room at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Hamburg Airport.
