Once a small fishing village, Ortakoy is now an upmarket district of Istanbul city, centrally located on the middle of the European bank of the river Bosphorus.

In the 16th century, the Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent encouraged his subjects to populate Ortakoy resulting in its transformation from small town to cosmopolitan borough. Today, visitors to Ortakoy will find historic baths, palaces and mosques as well as a waterfront that is home to glamorous mansion houses and is at the heart of Istanbul's nightlife.
