The University of Rostock, the oldest university of the Baltic Sea, will celebrate its 600-year anniversary in 2019.
Pope Martin V. allowed the construction of this "studium generale" on 13 Feb 1419, granting it its own jurisdiction and administration. Here, the University of Rostock took up lecture in the areas of law, medicine and philosophy since 12 Nov 1419.
Since then, the University has been a superb asset to the hanseatic city of Rostock.
The University currently has 5,000 employees and 15,000 students at nine facilities.
Students enhance their knowledge with over 70 different study courses, covering the fields of agricultural and environmental faculties, computer science, electrical engineering, law, engine building, mathematics, natural sciences, philosophy, theology, economy and social sciences.
A research and conference destination
With focuses on "life, light and material," "maritime systems," "growing old successfully" and "knowledge – culture – transformation," the faculty aids the development of new research and technology.
