The Phoenician city of Lpgy - as Leptis was known – was founded in the 1st millennium BC. In 46BC, the Romans made it part of Africa and when Septimus Severus became Emperor in 193AD, he began to transform it it into a stunning city. The remodelling was continued by his successors but unfortunately, Leptis later fell into disrepair.
