Discover more about Sabratha
Sabratha was originally a Phoenician trading post and, like Leptis Magna, became part of Africa when the Romans arrived. A prosperous city, it began to decline in the 4th century and, by the 11th century, it had been abandoned.

Visitors to Sabratha today can still get an idea of its former architectural beauty from the ruins of buildings like the stunning three-storey theatre, the amphitheatre, the Temple of Liber Pater, the Capitolium and the Basilica of Justinian. Visitors can also see some of the treasures excavated by archaeologists in the two on-site museums, before returning to their Tripoli hotel to unwind.
