A classic hotel in the heart of Turku
In the 1960’s, the long-planned project for the construction of a major hotel in Turku finally went underway with the formation of the Oy Hotelli Marina Ab Company. At the turn of the decade, the old buildings were demolished for the new hotel designed by architects Jaakko and Unto Rantanen. The construction, by A. Puolimatka Oy, was completed in 1973, and the hotel was officially opened in March 1974.
The hotel received much attention around the world, including in American architecture journals. Today, the hotel is protected as an important piece of architecture and cultural history. A nod to its history, the anniversary year logo depicts a mooring rope and is an original design by architect and professor Kyösti Varis. The logo was reintroduced to mark the 40th anniversary of the Radisson Blu Marina Palace Hotel, Turku.
The best service with the customer’s needs at heart
A “Yes I can” attitude and way of life is our core principle, and we always strive to fulfill our customers’ requests. Throughout its history, the Radisson Blu Marina Palace Hotel, Turku has served its customers with passion and discretion. As an example, in decades past when the hotel kept strict dress codes, restaurant staff kept several jackets and clothing items on hand to ensure that everyone met these standards and could enter the restaurant. The excellent service attitude and customer focus have always been priority at the hotel, evidenced by a famous visit from the Chinese president some years ago. The Chinese brought everything for the president’s suite, including a kitchen and a bed. As always, for the hotel, it was just a matter of finding a way to make it happen.

An eventful 2000’s
Over the years, the hotel has had many different owners. In 1997, Arctia Hotel Marina Palace became part of the Scandic chain of hotels, and the name was changed to Scandic Hotel Marina Palace. In 2004, for a moment it looked like Radisson Blu Marina Palace Hotel, Turku was about to come to the end of its time as a hotel. The hotel business was closed down and the building went up for sale. There were plans to redevelop the site into executive apartments. Luckily, the project never took hold, and it was business as usual at the hotel, much to the joy of Turku residents. In 2005, the building went through a complete refurbishment programme, and the hotel business became part of SOK. In 2011, Radisson Blu Marina Palace Hotel, Turku changed hands again when the hotel business was bought by Turun Osuuskauppa. Today, the hotel is known as Radisson Blu Marina Palace Hotel.
