Responsible Business - Let's take responsibility

Taking responsibility for the environment and local community has been an important part of Rezidor's broader commitment to sustainable development for many years. In 2001, this commitment was fortified and placed within the scope of a programme called Responsible Business (RB). Each hotel has a unique RB Action Plan covering areas such as community outreach, environmental improvement, employee well-being and health and safety. Our hotels are engaged with both local charity groups and Rezidor's corporate international charity organisation, the World Childhood Foundation. The mission of Childhood is to defend the rights of the child and to promote better living conditions for vulnerable and exploited children at risk all over the world.

Here are some of the Responsible Business activities and achievements of this hotel:

  • In December 2006 we invited school children to decorate little gingerbread houses and biscuits. They have been sold to our clients and staff. The collected money (about EUR 600,-) had been given to the charity organization "Welt Kinder Vereinigung"
  • In July 2006 we organized a flee market with the "lost and found" items. The collected amount went to "Save the children".
  • We support the association the "Make A Wish" Foundation, offering for instance complimentary rooms for children and their families who are coming to Vienna to fulfill a child's wish. We also arrange stays for them at the best possible price at our European properties and offer preferential conditions for their annual charity brunch.
  • We support an association again bowel cancer, offering preferential prices for their annual brunch, or complimentary conference rooms.
  • We support local associations like "Cliniclowns" or an hospice with financial spends, vouchers for their charity events.
  • We implemented a complete waste separation at our property (guest rooms, offices, staff cantina...).
  • We are testing sensors in guest toilets in order to save water during hand wash. Should the experience be successful (i.e.: show an water saving) we will install this sensor in all our guest toilets.
  • After a successful test period in 10 guest rooms, we mounted new shower heads in guest rooms to save water (about 50% saving per shower).
  • We collect old cell phones for a recycling firm. One euro per collected cell phone will be given to a charity organization.
  • Books and magazines which are found in the rooms after a guest's departure are regularly brought to the cantina, where the staff can borrow them free of charge.
