Islam's Second Holiest City
Known as the birthplace of Islam, Al Madinah is packed with significant Islamic monuments which hold historic and cultural importance. Visitors who are performing their duty of Hajj can complement their trip with a visit to the several mosques and sites which are intimately linked to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) who lived in the city. Situated in the heart of the city, lie the second of The Two Holy Mosques, the Prophet's Mosque as well as the final resting place of the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him). The Qubaa Mosque is Islam's first mosque and has the honor of having its foundation stone laid by Prophet himself. The Jum'a Mosque holds the distinction of being the first place where the Prophet offered his first Jum'a prayer upon arriving in the city. Another importance place of interest is Jannat al-Baqi which is the resting place and graveyard of many of the Prophet's wives, daughters and other family members. Just outside the city, nestled within the mountains, visitors can see the Graves of the Martyrs of the Battle of Uhud.

Though it is not a part of the Hajj or Umrah, the holy city of Madinah is a popular stop for pilgrims making the trip towards Mecca as it is the birthplace of Islam.
