Russian Grand Prix Sochi
It is hard to describe the feeling when the deafening hum of the magnificent FORMULA 1 machines race by and then vanish as quickly as the appeared. Blink and you will miss them, but you will still hear them as they whizz around the circuit. Luckily the large screens make it possible to follow the race. This is your chance to see hours of engineering genius, together with the world’s most skilled drivers, come alive in one place, Sochi.
A new 6km circuit has been constructed in Sochi for the RUSSIAN FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX. The first event will take place in 2014 and is contracted to run until 2020. F1 supremo, Bernie Ecclestone, has been working together with President Vladimir Putin to bring this event to Russia. After race plans collapsed in other parts of the country, Sochi was chosen to showcase the county’s motorsport scene. Previously, this has only been held twice in Russia, in 1913 and 1914. Due to the World Wars and later bureaucratic barriers, the event came to a halt. Since 2001, several attempts to bring racing back into to Russia have finally paid off, ensuring it to once again be a part of the country’s sporting scene.
Sochi International Street Circuit
The circuit integrates public roads into the track. This requires special planning and for roads to be shut down during the weeks surrounding the race, a great way to raise awareness of the event and encourage locals to get involved. Two circuits have been designed, once specifically for F1 racing. The second one, Sochi International Street Circuit, combines the two tracks into one larger circuit allowing Sochi to host a selection of key motorsport events throughout the year.
No matter which team or driver you support, everyone comes together to celebrate this annual event. The circuit is located just minutes from Radisson Blu Paradise Resort & Spa Sochi. This Black Sea resort an ideal choice of accommodation for every motorsport-lover wanting to experience the action and thrill of fast cars that the FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX brings to the country.
