Visiting the Vasa Museum, Stockholm
The Vasa was salvaged in 1961 and has been displayed in its very own custom built museum since 1990. Despite being commissioned by King Gustavus Adolphus, the monarch's fervent involvement and desire to own the world's greatest ship ultimately proved its downfall. Visitors can now view six levels of the restored ship, gaining an insight into the conditions Swedish sailors would have worked in and the design features that went into the vessel.
Alongside the Vasa is a collection of reclaimed artefacts and exhibits which provide tourists with information about the history of the ship. The site is also home to four floating 20th century museum ships that tourists can explore at their leisure.
