Introduced by the Nordic Council of Ministers, the Nordic Swan Eco-Label is a comprehensivesystem where hotels follow a strict set of criteria regarding environmental, life-quality andhealth issues.

For a little more than 20 years ago (1989) the Nordic Ecolabel became the official Ecolabel forthe Nordic countries. The purpose was to provide consumers with a tool (our NordicEcolabel logo) to help them choose among the best, from an environmental standpoint,products on the market. Criteria is developed by using a life-cycle perspective.. That meansthat we judge the environmental effects a product has from several aspects: energy and waterusage, kinds of chemicals used, recycling and reuse of waste products. If we believe that byproviding Nordic Ecolabel criteria for this group we can positively influence the productionprocesses for that product group, then we work in our Nordic organisation on developingcriteria. Today many products and services can apply for our voluntary Nordic Ecolabellicence, and that includes hotels, restaurants, cleaning services, batteries, cleaning detergents -in total 63 product groups. The Nordic Ecolabel is a Type 1 ecolabel.

And that is how we work. We develop Nordic criteria for new product groups, and wecontinually revise these criteria. In this way we push companies to have a more sustainableproduction, and for you, the consumer, you have more and more Nordic Ecolabelled productsto choose between for a sustainable consumerism.
