The Royal Palace Oslo is located at the north west end of the Karl Johan's Gate thoroughfare in the centre of Oslo. A fine example of Neo-Classical design, the palace features a stuccoed brick façade and opened in 1849 under the reign of King Oscar I. It is the main residence of the King and Queen and where the monarchy conducts state business, grants audiences and holds official dinners.
The Royal Palace is open to the public during the summer from Saturday 23 June to Wednesday 15 August. All visitors must take a guided tour, with English speaking tours taking place three times a day, seven days a week. The tour lasts for around an hour and takes visitors through beautiful state rooms such as the Council Chamber, the White Parlour, the Great Hall and the King Haakon VII suite.
