The BMW Berlin Marathon


Every September thousands of runners pound the streets of Berlin during the BMW Berlin Marathon. From world champions to running club members, and fun-runners in fancy dress, they all line up to compete in the challenge, cheered on by millions.

The marathon is a city-wide road race that usually takes place on the last weekend of September. It starts and finishes near the Brandenburg Gate, passing through the Mitte district. The Radisson Blu Hotel, Berlin is located in this historic part of Berlin, making it a convenient option for spectators and runners alike.
 

Magic Marathon Moments

Along with other races including the Boston, Chicago, New York, Tokio and London Marathons, it forms one of the World Marathon Majors. Known for its even surface, mild fall weather and encouraging spectators, it has had the most marathon world records, for both men and women, set on the course. Previous winners, such as Haile Gebrselassie, Dennis Kimetto, Tegla Noroupe and Naoko Takahashi, have all broken world records here.

Regardless of whether you’re testing out your stamina or simply cheering from the side-lines, the race brings an amazing atmosphere to the city and gives you the chance to see some of Berlin's most famous landmarks. The 45th BMW Berlin-Marathon will take place on the September 16, 2018..
 

2017 Winners

In total, 43,852 runners from 137 countries entered the 44th edition of the race, which took place on September 24, 2017. Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge won in an outstanding time of 2:03:32, beating Ethiopia's Guye Adola, a debutant to the race. Fellow Kenyan, Gladys Cherono, won the women’s race in an equally impressive and world-class time of 2:20:23, her second win after 2015.
