The Region's Beaches
Biarritz is renowned for its magnificent beaches, and guests at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Biarritz will have no difficulty getting to the fine sands of the Côte des Basques beach. Prized by families and surfers alike is the Grande Plage beach, which is a 10-minute walk from the hotel. Visitors should also look out for these beaches: La Marbella, the Miramar beach, Milady to the south and, for children, the beach of the Old Port (Port Vieux), which is an ideal place to take a dip.
A few steps farther, visitors will find "Little California," the town of Anglet that has more than 11 beaches. Some beaches are places to be seen and others are family-oriented, friendly or more wild.
Further to the north, guests can find the beaches of the Landes, which offer a complete escape. Among the best known are the beaches at Hossegor and Seignosse, which host international surfing competitions in the summer and are true havens of peace in the winter. The other beaches on the 100-kilometer stretch of the Landes coastline will delight those who prefer their nature wild.
As varied as the colors and the countryside of the region, rambling in the Basque country can also be adapted to suit all fitness levels and all tastes. All year round, the mildness of the climate allows visitors to travel the footpaths of the seashore on foot, on horseback or by bike. Other routes equally accessible throughout the year are the GR10, the walker’s trail at Ainhoa or Sare and the pilgrims’ ways around Saint Jacques de Compostelle.
