Tucked just within Slovak territory near the border with Austria, Devin Castle is steeped in character and has come to embody Slavic culture. Visitors can wander around the atmospheric passageways, eat at one of the nearby restaurants in Devin village or take part in a host of activities to please all the family, from horse riding to hiking.
Set against the backdrop of rivers and forests, Devin Castle feels very secluded and tranquil, but isn’t too far from the Old Town and the best Bratislava hotels for a short daytrip.
What to see and do
Devin Castle is one of the very oldest castles in Bratislava, but has survived to this day thanks to faithful reconstruction work and restorations to parts of the building. While Bratislava Castle impresses with its size and grandeur, Devin Castle has a more quietly atmospheric and romantic feel. The castle’s caves house permanent exhibits which offer visitors a unique way to get a sense of Devin Castle’s history through the years.
No visit to Devin Castle would be complete without stopping to admire the views from the watchtower, which is the most popular spot for taking photos of the scenery.
