Visit two Romanian castles in one day

‘Romanian Castles and Fortresses’ is one of the most popular day trips from Bucharest, taking you to Transylvania whilst traveling along a picturesque route through the Carpathian Mountains. The tour gives you the opportunity to explore two of the most beautiful and renowned Romanian castles: Bran Castle and Peles Castle.

Bran Castle

Bran Castle is perched dramatically on the edge of a gorge guarding a key entry route to Transylvania, nestled against the backdrop of the Carpathian Mountains. The 14th-century fortress served as a military stronghold for centuries before Queen Maria transformed it into a royal residence in the 20th century. It is most famous for inspiring Bram Stoker’s legend of Dracula and people come from across the globe to hear such legends. However, take a guided tour here and you will also hear authentic tales of the castle’s rich history, as well as receiving a glimpse into life here through a fascinating selection of art and furniture from the royal collection in its atmospheric rooms.

Peles Castle

Peles Castle was completed in the early 20th century with the purpose of being the official summer residence of the Romanian Royal Family. It remained this for decades, but today it is one of the country’s most visited attractions. This is no surprise when you see the immaculate landscaped gardens and draw your eyes up to the neo-renaissance design of the exterior. Step inside and see the dark rich wood furnishings that decorate every wall, stairway and ceiling cornice. The attention to detail is immaculate. Each of the 160 rooms hold impressive art collections and are decorated. Throughout the castle, you will find traditional furniture, antiques, sculptures and an extensive collection of weaponry.

Brasov Transylvanian Old Town

As a memorable ending to the perfect day out, you will stop by the beautiful red roof-topped village of Brasov. You will feel like you have just stepped back in time at this perfect example of a typical Transylvanian old town.
