And when we operate in a way that is respectful of human rights, socially equitable and environmentally sustainable, we can better meet our environmental, social and economic responsibilities.

The hotel has focused on being an environmentally friendly hotel and has been recognized on Climate Change from the Sustainable Business Awards Philippines 2014 by Global Initiatives. The hotel is also active in community involvement, especially in addressing the needs of marginalized children.

CHILD WELFARE AND PROTECTION

  • Advocating child protection from sexual exploitation under the UN Global Compact and ECPAT Code of Conduct
    The Radisson Blu Cebu, along with the rest of the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group across the world, supports the UN Global Compact. This is a principle-based framework for businesses, stating 10 principles in the areas of human rights, labor, the environment and anti-corruption.
  • Promoting the health and well-being of children
    The hotel is a proud supporter of Children at Risk — a global organization seeking to improve children’s quality of life through strategic research, public-policy analysis, education, collaboration and advocacy. The Radisson Blu Cebu focuses on helping alleviate child mortality through health and nutrition, hygiene and sanitation improvement, and educational programs.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMS

  • Brigada Eskwela Program
    The hotel, together with the Department of Education, supports the rehabilitation of various elementary school facilities and classrooms through the Brigada Eskwela Program.
  • School Adoption Program
    Under the School Adoption Program, the Radisson Blu Cebu adopted Gaas Elementary School in Gaas, Balamban, Cebu as its beneficiary. From September 2014 to today, staff and volunteers have helped rehabilitate and repair the kindergarten and daycare classroom and added restrooms to maintain hygiene and sanitation. With the success of its current endeavors, the hotel plans to build more classrooms and facilities not only in Gaas, Balamban, but also in different areas of Cebu.
  • Operation Smile in cooperation with the MSY Charitable Foundation
    For three consecutive years, the hotel together with the MSY Charitable Foundation has supported Operation Smile, a global organization of medical professionals that offers free surgical services to children with cleft palates and gives them the gift of smile.
  • Mass feeding and slipper distribution for depressed public elementary schools
    Radisson Blu Cebu in cooperation with Mercy in Action, a non-profit organization that focuses on crises in maternal, newborn and child healthcare worldwide, launched a feeding program and gave out supplies to street kids at the Mercy in Action drop-in center in Talisay City, Cebu. On September 2015, the hotel staff and volunteers also conducted a feeding program and distributed slippers to Canjulao and Kalawisan elementary schools in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMS

  • Mangrove tree planting
    The Radisson Blu Cebu, in cooperation with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and local government agencies, planted 8,000 propagules of mangrove trees to date.
  • Supply chain management: farm-to-table
    Working towards a sustainable supply chain management that converts organic waste into organic fertilizers, the hotel, in cooperation with FDR Integrated Resource Recovery Management Inc. (FDR-IRRMI), is formulating a waste management process where all the collected organic waste coming from the hotel is converted into compost and organic fertilizer and is distributed to a local farm. In return, the hotel will buy 80% of the vegetable products from the farm, ensuring guests fresh, organically grown vegetables that are free of harmful pesticides and fertilizers.
  • Environmental and sustainable operations
    Through active programs and consistent monitoring of environmental performance through the hotel’s participation in the EarthCheck Certification Program, the Radisson Blu Cebu was recognized for achieving significant reductions in total waste, emissions and consumption. The hotel is the proud recipient of the 2014 HICAP Sustainable Hotel Award, Sustainable Operations.
  • Using energy efficient and environmentally friendly chillers 
    The Radisson Blu Cebu signed an agreement with the Philippine Chiller Energy Efficiency Project (PCEEP) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to replace two of its air-conditioning systems with more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly chillers. The hotel is the second hotel in Cebu to enter into a sub-grant agreement with PCEEP, a World Bank–assisted project that aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by replacing inefficient chillers.
