Edinburgh "green" hotel recognised for environmental excellence
Taking responsibility for the environment and local community has been an important part of the broader commitment of the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group to sustainable development for many years. In 2001, this commitment was fortified and placed within the scope of a programme called Responsible Business (RB). Each hotel has a unique RB Action Plan covering areas such as community outreach, environmental improvement, employee well-being, and health and safety.

The hotels are engaged with both local charity groups and the corporate international charity organisation recognised by the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, the World Childhood Foundation. The mission of the World Childhood Foundation is to defend the rights of the child and to promote better living conditions for vulnerable and exploited children at risk all over the world.

Serving the Edinburgh community through composting
We have come up with an innovative programme that combines caring for the environment and the community, leading to a more sustainable form of tourism. Through a partnership with Edinburgh Cyrenians, a local not-for-profit initiative that supports Edinburgh's homeless community, we now separate and locally compost all organic waste, reducing the amount of waste hauled to the landfill by 45%.

Offsetting your carbon footprint during a stay in Edinburgh
We offer a Green Room Rate to all hotel guests. For a small contribution toward the room stay, you can offset the carbon emissions associated with each visit. Through a partnership with CO2balance, an organisation specialising in helping businesses offset unavoidable carbon emissions, your contribution will assist environmental projects, creating a positive effect on the environment and communities throughout the world.

Lessening the environmental impacts of travel
Vehicle emissions in Edinburgh’s city centre can lead to health and environmental problems as well as noise pollution. To help reduce urban air pollution, more than 80% of our staff use public transportation or walk to and from work.

How you as our guest can help
The Radisson Blu Hotel is in the heart of Edinburgh's city centre. Most attractions, such as Edinburgh Castle and Princes Street, are easy to walk or bike to. If travelling further afield, however, Edinburgh's world-class public transportation system is convenient and affordable and cuts down on the number of vehicles on the road.
