Participate in Hamburg’s Haspa Marathon

The Haspa Marathon in Hamburg is a huge sporting event normally taking place in May or April. Thousands upon thousands of runners make their way to this huge city to compete against the best runners on the 42 kilometer track.

The track

For those that are running, the track will take you around some great spots to see when in the city. Starting and finishing at the CCH Congress Center, runners will then take on what is called ‘The Sinful mile’. This stretch is through the red lights district where The Beatles once played and The Police once sang about. Around the harbor and through the Wallring tunnel, down the Jungfernstieg boulevard, speed along Stadtpark, a huge green space decorated with trees known as Hamburg’s green lung. Then for the best part; Run through the “Witches’ Cauldron” of Eppendorfer Baum where tens of thousands of spectators line up to cheer everyone on, as they make their way to the finish line at the Heinrich Hertz Television Tower, next to the Congress Center.

The spectator experience

Just spectating the Haspa marathon? The event is well worth watching for visitors making their way to Hamburg. The city, albeit always busy and full of life, really gets excited for the race. Bars and restaurants are flooded with people as the stream of runners make their way around the track, really pumping up the atmosphere.

Endurance Expo

Usually around April, in cooperation with the marathon, there is a giant expo called Endurance. Here, whether you are an athlete or spectator, you can find a vast amount of sporting goods and be the first to get some of the amazing products for sale. For those running this is an excellent opportunity to get prepped and decked out in the latest gear from all the best brands and to see what new gadgets are being invented.

The Radisson Blu Hotel in Hamburg is the preferred choice for accommodation during the marathon due to its close proximity to the expo and the start and finish line. If running, you can cross the white ribbon and run right back to your room, whereas spectators will have the perfect spot to watch the start and finish of the race from just outside the hotel.
