World-class sports facilities in Hamburg

Hamburg has a rich culture when it comes to sporting events and as a result the city offers a huge cross-section of sports facilities from stadiums to arenas, tennis courts and golf courses. Whether you are participating in an event such as the Haspa Marathon or Vattenfall Cyclassics, or just visiting the city as a spectator, Hamburg knows how to put on a show.

Haspa Marathon

Hamburg’s Haspa Marathon takes place in April and is one of the most anticipated sporting events of the year. Over 20,000 participants take part, with an equally impressive crowd, offering their support along the route. The marathon is supported with a packed program of events so regardless if you’re competing or cheering along, you’ll enjoy an exciting carnival atmosphere.

Vattenfall Cyclassics

At the annual pro and amateur Vattenfall Cyclassics over 22,000 hobby cyclists bike through the streets of the city, covering a distance of 55, 100 or 150 kilometers. During the race an epic 800,000 enthusiastic spectators come along to cheering on the cyclists.

Other major sporting events

The German Open in July is one of the clay court highlights in the European tennis circuit, taking place in the country’s largest tennis courts at Rothenbaum Tennis Center. Elite athletes also come to the city in July to participate in the ITU World Triathlon, a grueling swim, cycle and run race.
