Shopping at the Grand Bazaar

A highlight of any shopping trip to Istanbul has to be a visit to the Grand Bazaar. It is one of the largest covered markets in the world and promises to keep you entertained for hours on end. Once the hub of all shopping activity for locals, this has now become a great place for visitors to pick up souvenirs from their trip. More than 400,000 visitors come here each day to find authentic Turkish goods and soak up the chaotically organized atmosphere.

Istanbul’s famous covered market

With thousands of shops tucked inside, the Grand Bazaar offers an exciting shopping experience for all that visits. There are plenty of restaurants inside wafting up smells of delicious Turkish food and you will be able to find many different items perfect for gifts for those back home. Turkish carpets, pottery, brassware and clothing made of leather, cotton and wool can be purchased from the stalls, among many other items. Be sure to check prices at a few stores before buying and don’t be afraid to haggle a little.

A bazaar walking tour

If you are interested in having a look at the different market places in the area, you could go on your own walking tour starting at the Grand Bazaar and ending at the Egyptian Spice Bazaar. This walking tour will take you past many different shops and even some attractions like the Rüstem Paşa Mosque designed by famous architect Mimar Sinan. When planning a walking trip, just remember that the Grand Bazaar and many other stores are closed on Sundays and during religious holidays.

On the way to the airport, you will find the Radisson Blu Hotel Istanbul Ottomare. The hotel offers comfortable business and private rooms for travelers seeking accommodation by the city
