Who is Sabiha Gokcen?

Sabiha Gokcen, the adopted daughter of Ataturk, the first President of Turkey, is one of nation's biggest names in aviation history. She was the first Turkish female combat pilot, qualified at the age of just 23. In 1938, Sabiha went into active service in the Balkans. Later in her career, she was appointed as the Chief Trainer at the Turkish Aviation League where she could pass on her knowledge to the next generation. The airport is named after her and is testament to the important part that she played in the nation's history.
