Elephant Sanctuary


Discover Africa's most-loved animal with a visit to the Elephant Sanctuary. Here, you will have the unique opportunity to interact with the gentle giants and learn more about the life and habitat of elephants living in the wild.

You can choose to visit for an afternoon or stay overnight for a more close-up experience with the animals. Each day there are a number of opportunities to engage in special activities with the elephants, including a brush down. There is also a restaurant at the sanctuary where you can enjoy lunch.
 

Visiting the Elephant Sanctuary

The Elephant Sanctuary has three locations around South Africa for visitors to enjoy - Plettenberg Bay, Hartbeespoortdam and Hazyview. The closest sanctuary to Johannesburg is Hartbeespoortdam, which offers hands-on opportunities to interact with the elephants.

Guides are present at all times to teach you about each African elephant living at the sanctuary. You can touch and interact with the elephants, and even try elephant back riding through the forest habitat at the sanctuary.

Getting to the Elephant Sanctuary

The sanctuary is a 1-hour drive from the Radisson Blu Hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg. You can hire a car or get a taxi from the hotel’s reception. Our staff will gladly help you arrange transportation during your stay.
