This elegant living museum has been painstakingly preserved to perfectly mimic a middle-class home of the Victorian era, complete with fascinating antiques, 18 grandiose rooms and plenty of stories to match.
Victorian splendor in JohannesburgDaily tours of the home are available throughout the year courtesy of tour guide Katharine Love, who actually lives in the house, hence why the museum is open by appointment only. Clad in authentic Victorian-style garments, Katharine takes you on a two-hour journey through the home that was once owned by her mother.
As you pass through the 18 rooms, you’ll learn about everything from food preparation and daily chores to the family’s daily life and traditional customs. Beyond Katharine’s fascinating tales about all things Victorian, the highlights of the tour include; the lavish dining room, complete with a fully set table; an impressive library; a fully equipped music room; the ladies' drawing room and several fascinating service rooms. Tea and cake may be ordered as an optional extra.

These private viewings include stories, information and artefacts which don’t feature on the regular guided tours. enabling you to gain a deeper understanding of the secrets and treasures of both the house and the Victorian era in general.
