THE MANCHESTER MUSEUM OF SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY
Science, technology and innovation in Manchester
Manchester's Museum of Science and Industry (MSI) is dedicated to the evolution of technology and gives you the chance to learn more about the city's contribution to the fields of industry and science. The museum is a key point on the European Route of Industrial Heritage and is built on the site of the world's first railway station, which was operational from 1830 to 1975.
Located just minutes from central Manchester, MSI offers ample on-site parking and is clearly signposted on all major routes into the city. As such, it’s easy to reach from our Manchester Airport hotel.
What's on at the MSI?With so much to see and do at the MSI, visit this Manchester museum and you will be spoilt for choice. From interactive experiments to a 4D theatre complete with moving seats and spraying water, the museum offers entertainment for the whole family.
Explore a Victorian sewer and take part in a number of interactive challenges in the museum's Revolution Manchester gallery. You can even have your photo displayed on a huge digital sculpture alongside some of the city's most notable inventors. The museum hosts several science festivals and exhibits throughout the year, with workshops on everything from music to Minecraft. Plus, you can see what it was like to work in a mill, how steam engines function, and how Manchester has contributed to the technological landscape over the years.
In addition, you can learn a lot about the history of computers. Be sure to stop by the replica of a Manchester small-scale experimental machine, nicknamed 'Baby', which was the first computer to store and run a program.
After trying your hand at a science experiment, you can enjoy a freshly-cooked meal or light bite in the museum's restaurant or coffee shop before heading back to unwind at the Radisson Blu.
