The Folle Journée is one of the most popular cultural events in Nantes and a highlight of the region's social calendar. Nantes is brimming with resplendent architecture and a rich local history, making it the perfect backdrop for this classical music festival.
The exciting La Folle Journée can be easily attended from our convenient hotel in Nantes. Located in a converted 19th century court complex, the Radisson Blu Hotel Nantes provides guests with a sumptuously styled room that is ideally located for exploring the city.
What is the Folle Journée?
Founded in 1995 as a one day event, La Folle Journée has expanded into a five day celebration of classical music. Now the largest classical music festival in the whole of the country, La Folle Journée sees musicians from both France and further afield descend on Nantes each summer.
The festival is named after a Pierre Beaumarchais play and attempts to break down preconceptions surrounding certain aspects of classical music. Encompassing the whole city, although centred on the La Cité venue, the Folle Journée festival brings a vive and vitality to the cultural life of Nantes.
Every year the festival tailors its programme to a different theme, with Mozart and Tolstoy's 'Ivan Ilyich' just two of the previous subjects to have been covered. The festival's success has resulted in it expanding into other cities in the Pays de la Loire region in recent years.
