Sligo's own theatre
First opened in 1982, the Hawk’s Well Theatre was the 1st purpose-built theatre to be constructed west of the River Shannon. A true testament to the importance of the arts for the community, it was founded in large part through the efforts of the local Sligo Drama Circle, with support from the Arts Council of Ireland.
Since its foundation, the Hawk's Well has played a key role in fostering local talent, and many professional performers from the area first tread the boards at the venue. The theatre regularly plays host to professional productions, both local and touring, as well as provide a home for a variety of local arts and cultural festivals and amateur drama groups.
The Hawk's Well underwent renovations in 1996 and 2006 to make sure it fully accommodates the needs of its modern audience, with 340 comfortable seats, up-to-date lighting and a spacious foyer with seating and bar area. An intimate and friendly theatre, the Hawk's Well is committed to bringing the best of live performances to visitors and locals alike.
