THE IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM, DUXFORD
The Imperial War Museum at Duxford is Britain’s largest aviation museum, housing over two hundred aircraft. A great day out for young and old alike, this is an exceptional museum not to be missed. It’s located in the village of Duxford in Cambridgeshire, just 40 minutes from our hotel.
This museum is steeped in history and has played an important role in British aviation since it was built during the First World War. It was one of Britain’s first Royal Air Force bases and previously functioned as a flying school and a fighter station. Today, the expansive aviation base is home to over two hundred aircraft, including the magnificent Concorde and a renowned Spitfire. Unsurprisingly, conservation of these historic aircraft is an important part of the museum.
