Cheer, chant and whoop along with over 21,000 cheering football fans during a match at the grand Lerkendal Stadium. Located in the Lerkendal neighborhood in Trondheim, this sporting venue is the home ground of the football club Rosenborg BK and is the second-largest stadium in Norway. Whether seeing a European Cup match, going on a stadium tour or even attending a rock concert, you are bound to find fun in the grandstands.
Stadium modernizationsThe original building pales in comparison to today's facilities. Inaugurated by the city of Trondheim in 1947, the all-purpose stadium consisted of a grass field, two gravel fields, two tennis courts, two handball courts and a running track. Over the following several decades, as Rosenborg’s status developed, Lerkendal Stadium was steadily improved. But by the 1990s, when Rosenborg was well and truly a class European club, the venue still didn’t have the wow-factor reflective of the club.
In 2000, Rosenborg bought the stadium from Trondheim city for a complete overhaul, costing over 250 million NOK (approx. 30 million USD). In October 2002, Rosenborg unveiled its mighty playing field to the world - the all-new Lerkendal Stadium. With a current capacity for of over 21,000 spectators and future plans for additional improvements, it truly is now a world stage.
A VIP experienceA great perk that came with the improvements in 2002, is the VIP box and its excellent dining opportunities. There are different VIP tickets to choose from including mingling zones with pizza buffet and restaurant seating with hot and cold dinner buffet and drinks. If you would like to make a memorable experience for you and your travel partners or business colleagues, then be sure to book VIP tickets in advance.
The thrill of a match at Lerkendal Stadium, combined with superior city-center accommodation, makes for the ultimate city break. Choose the Radisson Blu Royal Garden Hotel, Trondheim for spectacular views over the Nidelven River with easy access to the venue.
