Cricket in Sharjah
Cricket is one of the most popular sports in Sharjah, so much so that the Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium has hosted more One Day Internationals than any other ground in the United Arab Emirates. Starting life as a small facility with limited seating, the Sharjah Cricket Stadium is now a world-class venue, boasting a capacity of 27,000 people.
Conveniently located near the centre of the city, with on-site shuttle services and private taxi rentals, the comfortable Radisson Blu Resort in Sharjah is the perfect place to unwind after the excitement of a match at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Discover the home of Sharjah cricket
Built in the early 1980s, Sharjah Cricket Stadium quickly became the home of cricket tournaments in the United Arab Emirates. Between 1984 and 2003, the ground held 206 One Day Internationals, attracting large crowds, particularly from the region's expat population. Five test matches have been held at the stadium, including two matches between Pakistan and the West Indies, two fixtures between Pakistan and Australia and one match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
Although many of the region's popular cricket matches are now held in neighbouring Abu Dhabi, Sharjah still maintains a strong cricketing tradition, with its stadium becoming home to the Afghanistan cricket team in 2010.
