Dublin Zoo

Dublin Zoo is one of Dublin’s most visited attractions and the largest zoo in Ireland. It was established by the Royal Zoological Society of Dublin in 1830 when 46 mammals and 72 birds were donated from London Zoo. What was then 15 acres of zoo gardens, it has grown from strength to strength and the zoo now spreads over 28 acres.

Dublin Zoo Highlights
Dublin Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in the world and recently received a large refurbishment. Today, it is home to over 400 animals and a fantastic place for families to spend the day with many exciting and endangered animals to see.

Daily Events
Throughout the day there are various events, feedings and talks at the different animal enclosures where visitors can learn more about the lions, orang-utans, reptiles, elephants, chimpanzees, gorillas and more. The zoo’s mission is to promote conservation and education. Follow the zoo map and learn about animals and their habitats from all around the world.

Visit the Meerkat Restaurant or one of the zoo’s several cafes and kiosks. There are two gift shops with plenty of animal merchandise so you can take away a cuddly toy of your favourite animal or souvenirs and gifts.

Phoenix Park
Dublin Zoo is set in Phoenix Park, one of Europe’s largest landscaped parks which is a vast 1752 acres of land. It was originally opened as a Royal Deer Park and today remains a habitat for many animals and birdlife, and a conservation area. Thirty per cent of the parkland is trees. When visiting Dublin Zoo take time to look around Phoenix Park. There are many historic buildings, Ashtown Castle, the Victorian Kitchen Walled garden and Phoenix Park Visitor Centre. Enjoy a walk in woodlands, lunch in picnic areas and take the children to the playgrounds. Visiting Dublin Zoo and strolling around Phoenix Park are some of the best things to do in Dublin
