Sports and Competitions

For sports fans, the Stockholm Winter Games is an annual event held at Stockholm International Fairs (Stockholmsmässan) and encompasses activities such as tobogganing, golf and martial arts. You can also watch or take part in the Midnattsloppet, a 10km race through the city in the middle of the night held every August. One of the most famous sporting events held here, is the famed Stockholm Marathon. Compete against some of the best runners in the world, or be a spectator in this sport that sends electricity through the city.

Other big events include the Midsummer Eve festivities, which are second in importance only to Christmas and Swedish National Day. On June 6, the streets are filled with Swedish flags, people dressed in traditional costumes and ceremonies to celebrate their national pride. In July, there is also the Stockholm Pride Festival, where the LGBT community comes together for a parade, entertainment, seminars and more.

Film fanatics should plan a visit to Stockholm during the International Film Festival, which is the leading film event in northern Europe. It attracts some big names and offers a multitude of screenings and events across different venues. Theater and opera aficionados can enjoy performances at the Oscarsteatern and Folkoperan venues.
