Chat Noir Theater

Let Chat Noir entertain you

If you are a cabaret or revue lover, then you are going to love Norway’s famous Chat Noir theater. This historic venue has been wowing audiences with musicals and theatrical performances since 1912. A visit here should be on top of your list if you want to experience the best comedy and entertainment on offer in the city.

Enjoy top Norwegian comedy

Chat Noir is like a venerable old showgirl that still has more than what it takes to raise the roof and entertain you. Today, you can watch Norwegian revue and musical stars such as Bjarte Hjelmeland, Jan Eggum, Ingar Helge Gimle and many more on the stage at Chat Noir. Norway’s ‘Queen of Comedy” Hege Schøyen has also played a wide variety of shows here. The program is filled to the brim with enticing acts each year and there is definitely something for everyone. Most performances are in Norwegian, with English acts performed on occasion.

A revue theater rich in history

The 1920’s were perhaps the theater’s heyday. Led by Victor Bernau between 1920 and 1928, Chat Noir became renowned as a modern revue theater. Unfortunately, with the occupation of Norway by the Nazi’s during World War II, the theater fell on hard times. The music still played but the material was heavily censored. When the war was over, this spirited institution gave it their all and put on revues, musicals and theater plays to entertain the people of Oslo again, and this is something they are still doing today.

If you are looking for some top notch musical or comedy experiences in the Norwegian capital, then a room at our Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel, Oslo puts you center stage for cultural experiences. Chat Noir is within walking distance of our hotel, ensuring you a fun night out. The National Theater is also found in close proximity, and a visit to the Vigeland Park is another must-do in Oslo.
