Attractions in Stockholm
Stockholm, the self-ascribed capital of Scandinavia, offers plenty of attractions to enjoy whether you’re visiting the city on holiday, or making a quick stop on a business trip.
Hundreds of years of history, culture and architecture mixed with modern sights and sounds make Stockholm a varied melting pot of places to see that are interesting for everyone. While some visitors flock to big attractions like the medieval old town of Gamla Stan, others prefer the city's modern art galleries and cultural highlights.
Museums, preserved ships and family funThe top sights in Stockholm await those visiting the city center, from the narrow alleyways and small shops of Gamla Stan to the stately, imposing Royal Palace, the King’s official residence. Inside the gigantic Royal Palace is more than 600 rooms, providing a great contrast to the size of old town.
Venture across the water to the Vasa Museum on Djurgården island to see the one-of-a-kind fully preserved Vasa ship from the 1600s. With 64 canons and several hundred sculptures, the ornate warship sunk on its maiden voyage in 1628, after sailing just 1300 meters. The sheer size of the ship is sure to spark the imaginations of both adults and children.
Further family attractions on Djurgården include Skansen, which consists of a zoo and open-air museum depicting the life in Sweden through the ages. At Skansen, you’ll find a wide-ranging program, with many activities and events for the youngest. Kids will also enjoy a visit to the Junibacken fun park, devoted to the fairytale worlds created by Astrid Lindgren. Another favorite, and you don’t have to be a kid to enjoy it, is the Gröna Lund amusement park, with fun for the whole family.
For modern art make a visit to Moderna Museet, home of modern art in Stockholm, or Fotografiska, an incredible museum dedicated exclusively to photography. No trip to Stockholm would be complete without a visit to the ABBA Museum, and you don’t have to be a fan of pop music to have the best time among the glittering 70’s outfits, groovy rhythms and catchy melodies.
Radisson Blu Airport Terminal Hotel, Stockholm-Arlanda Airport puts you in a great location just steps from the airport terminals and near to all the city center’s best attractions. Reach central Stockholm in just 20 minutes with the Arlanda Express train.
