The International White Nights Festival
Every summer, visitors from across the globe flock to St. Petersburg for the White Nights Festival, an annual international arts event featuring ballet, music, opera, and dance performances across the city. The festival includes world-famous classical performers in some of the city's most prestigious arts venues and is a must-see when visiting in June or July.
One of Russia’s top festivals
The St. Petersburg White Nights Festival takes place every summer, usually from the end of May through to mid July. For fans of music and the performing arts, attending this festival is an unparalleled experience. Past guest stars of the festival include mezzo-soprano Olga Borodina, the music director of the Los Angeles Opera, James Conlon, and Latvian violinist Gidon Kremer.
The festival is dubbed ‘White Nights’ due to the time of year it takes place. In the summer the sun hardly sets meaning it is light almost all night long. At the concerts and events, you can party into the night with the midnight sun by your side, making for a unique experience. There is often a concert held at Palace Square where you can catch pop singers and other stars such as previous performers, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Ricky Martin and more.
Events and attractions
The festival aims to promote Russian culture; therefore, you can find a number of film screenings and other activities taking place. Carnivals are a prominent feature of the White Nights. The suburb of Peterhof hosts one of the most popular carnivals, which features horse-drawn carriage rides and elaborate re-enactments of famous events from Russia's past.
The Radisson Sonya Hotel, St. Petersburg is situated in the heart of the city, close to the many festival events. Wrap up your White Nights experience with a comfortable and stylish room, leaving you refreshed and ready for another day of exploring.
