Travel in speed and comfort with Arlanda Express
The Arlanda Express airport rail provides fast and easy transportation between Stockholm’s Central Station and Stockholm Arlanda Airport. Getting from the airport into the city center is a breeze, taking only 20 minutes onboard the train. Arlanda Express departs every 15 minutes, every 10 minutes during peak hours, and services all the terminals at Arlanda Airport. These trains have transported travelers to and from the busy international airport since 1999. Tickets can be bought at the self-service machines, the staffed counters at the station or online. Arlanda Express is one of the most climate-friendly routes between Stockholm city and Arlanda Airport
A unique collaboration
During the 1990’s it became increasingly clear that the number of air travelers would be dramatically rising. At the same time there were demands to reduce the amount of traffic on the roads to the airport by building a rail link. The Arlanda line became the first major Swedish infrastructure project in 100 years to be largely financed with private funds. Normally the cost would fall on the Swedish taxpayers but the economy at the time demanded a different solution. Numerous international banks were persuaded to provide loans with future ticket revenues as their only guarantee, in what became a unique joint project between public and private sectors in Sweden.
Iconic trains with style
The express trains were built by Alstom Transport Ltd of Birmingham, and the yellow tapered ends make them easily recognizable as they soar under the Swedish sky towards Arlanda. These trains were built especially for this airport rail link and underwent a year of rigorous testing before being put into service in 1999.
