WATERFRONT HOTEL PRACTICES RESPONSIBLE BUSINESS
Taking responsibility for the environment and local community has been an important part of the broader commitment of the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group to sustainable development for many years. In 2001, this commitment was fortified and placed within the scope of a program called Responsible Business (RB). Each hotel has a unique RB Action Plan covering such areas such community outreach, environmental improvement, employee well-being, and health and safety.
The hotels are engaged with both local charity groups and the corporate international charity organization recognized by the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, the World Childhood Foundation. The mission of this foundation is to defend the rights of the child and to promote better living conditions for vulnerable and exploited children at risk all over the world.
The Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel, Stockholm and Stockholm Waterfront Congress Center occupy one of the most energy-efficient buildings in the world. Stockholm Waterfront Congress Center features glass facades with 1,040-square-meter solar collectors that, on average, gather 1 megawatt of heat energy daily. This is equivalent to 90,000 normal low-energy bulbs. Heating and cooling for the center is distributed in a concordant system. Heat is moved and distributed between the buildings from surplus to shortfalls. The center is cooled by water drawn from the lake, which is stored in 250-ton ice tanks in the basement. During the construction of the center, a large part of material was reused from the building that previously occupied the site.
This world-class energy solution was designed to cut CO2 emissions and to minimize impact on the environment and climate change. This approach to energy preservation is not typical when it comes to building construction; inspiration was drawn from the processing industry to create an energy-efficient solution.
Both the Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel and Stockholm Waterfront Congress Center have received the Green Key eco-label.
