Istanbul Shopping

As the imperial capital Constantinople, Istanbul was famous for its grand bazaars and its trade in silk, spices, fur and jewels. Today, Istanbul remains a shopping mecca - with modern shopping malls and designer boutiques rubbing shoulders with their historical counterparts.

Where to go shopping in Istanbul

•  Main Shopping Streets - Istanbul's principal shopping streets are the Nisantasi Abdi Ipekci Caddesi, the Istiklal Caddesi and the Bagdat Caddesi. Here you'll find well-known brand names like Lacoste, Mango, Zara and even Marks and Spencer as well as popular Turkish chains and specialist silk and cashmere retailers.
•  Modern Shopping Malls - Istanbul is home to more than ten shopping malls: Istinye Park, Kanyon, Akmerkez, Cevahir, Metrocity, Olivium, Historia, Capitol, Forum Istanbul, Viaport and City’s shopping centre.
•  Historic Bazaars - The two most famous of Istanbul's historic bazaars are the Grand Bazaar and the Spice Bazaar, found in Istanbul Old City. At the Grand Bazaar - one of the largest covered markets in the world - you'll find more than 5,000 shops selling fashion and jewellery as well as traditional Turkish ceramics and carpets.
